Pace Gallery Unveils NFT Art Project Featuring Joy Division
Pace Gallery has collaborated with influential English rock band Joy Division to create an NFT art project called “CP1919.” The project involves the band’s drummer Stephen Morris, album artist Peter Saville, and the official Joy Division Archive.
The “CP1919” series from Pace Verso includes two NFT drops and features a soundtrack by Morris and archival vocal samples from late frontman Ian Curtis. It also expands on the iconic album artwork from Joy Division’s “Unknown Pleasures,” with the title of the NFT series derived from the name of the original pulse that inspired the artwork.
The project features animated 3D imagery by Saville, who created artwork for both Joy Division and New Order. There will be two versions of the NFTs: “CP1919: Sweeping Sun Black 2023” will be a unique, one-of-one NFT with exclusive imagery and a soundtrack, while “CP1919: Sweeping Sun White 2023” will be an open edition NFT with newly-discovered sound samples.
On October 9, the project will be released for $100 per edition, with buyers able to pay using crypto or credit card. A percentage of the proceeds will be donated to suicide prevention charity CALM in memory of Ian Curtis.
Filmed Interview Reveals Unreleased Joy Division Recordings
Pace Gallery has also shared a filmed interview featuring Morris, Saville, and physicist Brian Cox. In the interview, it is revealed that the “CP1919” vocal samples include previously unreleased recordings from Joy Division’s live performance of “Atrocity Exhibition.” Morris expressed his excitement about discovering unheard material from Ian Curtis.
The NFT art project by Pace Gallery offers fans a unique opportunity to own exclusive artwork and support a meaningful cause.
