After successfully conducting several test runs, Ethereum’s core developers have announced their plan to deploy the network’s landmark Dencun upgrade on or around March 13. This upgrade will introduce proto-danksharding, a feature that could significantly enhance the speed and cost-effectiveness of Ethereum transactions. Proto-danksharding, also known as EIP-4844, is a preliminary version of danksharding, which aims to streamline data verification on Ethereum’s layer-2 networks. The Role of “Blobs” in Proto-Danksharding
The initial release of proto-danksharding in Dencun will introduce “blobs,” temporary off-chain data storage units that reduce storage and processing costs on Ethereum. These blobs are set to be implemented on the mainnet at slot 8626176.
