Guaranteed Income Program to Provide Millions of Dollars to US Residents
A new pilot program is set to distribute $10 million to residents of San Bernardino and Riverside Counties in California. Inland SoCal United Way, a nonprofit organization, has partnered with the California Department of Social Services for this initiative.
Cash Payments for Expecting Mothers and Former Foster Youth
The program will provide $600 in monthly cash payments to 500 expecting mothers and $720 per month to 120 former foster youth for a year and a half. Additionally, 620 applicants will be randomly selected for the control group, which will not receive monthly payments but will receive incentives. The program aims to evaluate the outcomes of the initiative.
Improving Financial Well-being
All participants in the program will have access to resources aimed at improving their financial well-being. This includes support and guidance on managing their finances effectively.
Eligibility and Funding
Expecting mothers must have a household income below $90,616 per year, be at least 18 years old, in the first six months of their pregnancy, and referred by an agency working with the program. Former foster youth who are turning 21 years old and living in San Bernardino and Riverside Counties are also eligible to apply.
The program will be partially funded by a $5 million grant from the California Department of Social Services. The remaining funding will come from foundations, public agencies, non-profit organizations, and private donors.
