Fairfax County, Virginia is launching a new basic income pilot that will distribute $2 million with no restrictions. The program aims to provide financial assistance to 180 families over a 15-month period, with each family receiving $750 per month. The sign-up process for the Fairfax County Economic Mobility Pilot (FCEMP) will run from September 23rd to October 3rd.
Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the program, applicants must be at least 18 years old, have a child aged 16 or younger, and have a household income between 150% and 250% of the 2023 Federal Poverty Level (FPL).
Purpose of the Pilot
The Fairfax County Economic Mobility Pilot aims to assess whether providing cash handouts can have positive effects on recipients’ physical and mental health, educational performance, housing and food security, and employment prospects. The program seeks to empower residents by allowing them to make decisions about their own lives and spending.
