US President Joe Biden unintentionally promoted Bitcoin by sharing a picture of himself with the famous “laser eyes” meme, which is often associated with Bitcoin supporters. The picture was posted on his personal social media accounts, not his official presidential accounts. Interestingly, Biden has used the ‘Dark Brandon’ meme as a campaign strategy to energize his supporters and raise funds.
While some crypto enthusiasts saw this as a positive sign for Bitcoin, experts advised Biden to remove the picture due to the confusion it caused in the crypto community. The price of Bitcoin remained stable around $48,150 during this time.
Crypto Community Reacts
Members of the crypto community, including Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson and Custodia Bank CEO Caitlin Long, questioned whether Biden’s accounts were hacked. Bitcoin maximalist Samson Mow criticized the use of laser eyes, calling it uncool and jokingly suggesting that this was an attempt by the Biden administration to stop Bitcoin from reaching $100,000.
Fox journalist Eleanor Terrett speculated that Biden’s use of the meme may be an attempt to appeal to crypto voters, especially considering the recent availability of spot Bitcoin ETFs in the US. It is worth noting that Biden is currently leading the Democratic Party’s primary elections for the 2024 United States presidential race.
