LinkedIn’s New Moves in AI: What You Should Know 🤖

LinkedIn is making significant strides in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI), informing its users about the upcoming use of their data to enhance its models. For the time being, this functionality is disabled for users in Europe and Switzerland. Moreover, LinkedIn has highlighted that users have the opportunity to opt-out if they prefer their data not to be used for AI purposes.

LinkedIn Updates Its License Agreement to Incorporate AI Features 📑

LinkedIn, the established professional networking platform owned by Microsoft, has successfully revealed an update to its License Agreement, which now includes new language emphasizing AI integration.

This shift appears to indicate that the social network plans to leverage its AI models for generating content, commonly known as “generative AI.”

As part of these developments, LinkedIn has formally informed its users that their data will be utilized to train its AI models starting on November 20, 2024.

At present, it is important to note that this feature is unavailable for users situated in the European Economic Area and Switzerland, with no updates given on when it might change.

If users disagree with the new terms concerning the use of their data, they have the option to refuse this by accessing the respective setting. This process will deactivate the inclusion of their data in the AI training process.

Exercising the opt-out option is straightforward. Users can accomplish it through their mobile and desktop devices by navigating to Settings, selecting “Data Privacy,” and then choosing “Data for the improvement of generative artificial intelligence.” From there, the user can disable the feature.

Microsoft Backs LinkedIn’s AI Initiative with a Major Fund 💰

The announcement from LinkedIn comes after its parent company, Microsoft, has declared its plans to establish a fund dedicated to AI in collaboration with BlackRock.

Recently, Microsoft disclosed its plan to initial a substantial 30 billion dollar fund aimed at financing data center construction and energy initiatives.

Microsoft’s commitment to AI is not a recent development, given its notable involvement in this emerging industry, particularly following its investment in OpenAI last year.

Notably, this year, Microsoft has also rolled out AI-enhanced products, such as DALL-E for image generation and Sora for video creation.

The inclusion of BlackRock in this fund appears almost inevitable since it ranks as the world’s largest asset manager and the second largest shareholder of Microsoft, owning approximately 5.7% of MSFT shares.

Essentially, the 30 billion dollar fund created by BlackRock and Microsoft is designed to facilitate the establishment of the necessary infrastructure that will bolster the development of the AI industry.

Microsoft Expands Its AI Portfolio with New Centers in Abu Dhabi 🌍

This week, Microsoft has also captured attention by opening two new AI centers in Abu Dhabi, which will play a role in its ongoing expansion strategy within the sector.

The primary focus of these two facilities will be the development of ethical guidelines and contributions to socially valuable projects.

These centers will also benefit from the support of the Abu Dhabi Council for Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technologies (AIATC).

Microsoft continues to forge ahead in the AI field, and these recent changes in LinkedIn’s approach reflect the broader commitment to integrating AI into professional networking and tools.

As the landscape of AI evolves, staying informed and prepared becomes essential in adapting to the new resources and functionalities being introduced. It’s crucial for users to understand how their data may be utilized and to make informed decisions about their participation.
