A dating application encounter took a dangerous turn  when a woman from Troy, Michigan fell victim to a digital currency scam, losing $20,000 in the procedure. The incident serves as a reminder that online romance can have unexpected and pricey consequences.

The woman met a seemingly charming man on a dating application and developed a connection with him over time. Nonetheless, he convinced her to invest $20,000 in digital currency through what appeared to be a legitimate Uniswap interface.

Shortly after the investment, the victim received alarming emails from someone claiming to be Coinbase, requesting an extra $30,000 to regain access to her account. And once she contacted Coinbase directly, she realized  that the Uniswap platform she used was a fraudulent clone.

This incident is not isolated. Scammers recently breached Vitalik Buterin’s social media account, leading to the illicit transfer of nearly $700,000. Even billionaires like Mark Cuban have fallen victim to digital currency scams.

In Thailand, four Chinese nationals and a Lao citizen were arrested for a fraud that caused victims losses amounting to $76 Million.
