Victory for Do Kwon as Montenegro Court Reverses Extradition Decision

Montenegro Court Overturns Extradition of Do Kwon

The Montenegro Court of Appeal has reversed the decision to extradite Do Kwon, the co-founder of Terraform Labs. The court stated that the original order was “affected by significant violations.” This decision came after Kwon appealed the ruling in a session on Feb 7.

Kwon was initially set to be extradited following a ruling by the High Court of Podgorica in December. He was arrested for using forged documentation. However, Kwon’s legal team appealed the decision, allowing him to remain in Montenegro while awaiting the outcome of the case.

Court Documents Highlight Violations

According to court documents, the extradition was overturned due to multiple grounds, including violations of criminal procedure. The wording of the original decision was deemed incomprehensible and lacked clear reasons for decisive facts. Additionally, the High Court’s judgment disregarded the proper order of extradition, which should have prioritized South Korea over any other country.

Continued Saga and Extradition to South Korea

This week, Han Chang-joon, the former Chief Financial Officer of Terraform Labs, was extradited to South Korea by Montenegrin police. Chang-joon had been arrested alongside Kwon and received a four-month jail sentence for falsifying documents.

Kwon’s case is ongoing, with accusations against him and others for their alleged involvement in policies that led to the collapse of Terra Network in 2022. This incident resulted in significant regulatory pressure and regulations throughout the bear market.
