Blockchain Sleuths Identify $3.9 Million in ETH Transactions from Vitalik Buterin’s Wallet

Several Ether (ETH) transactions from a wallet associated with Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin in September 2023 have been flagged by blockchain sleuths. The transactions amount to over $3.9 million.

Recent Transaction and ETH Deposits to Exchanges

One of the highlighted transactions is a 400 ETH transfer, worth around $632,000, from Vitalik’s wallet to Coinbase on September 25. This information was shared by separate blockchain monitoring profiles.

According to Spot On Chain, this recent transaction is part of a series of ETH deposits made by Buterin to centralized exchanges over the past 10 days. In total, it is estimated that Buterin has deposited approximately 2,421 ETH ($3.94 million) since September 15.

Deposits to Kraken, Bitstamp, and Paxos

The blockchain analytics platform highlights several deposits made by Buterin during this period. These include 321 ETH deposited to Kraken between September 15 and September 19. Additionally, Buterin reportedly deposited a total of 1,700 ETH to Bitstamp in multiple transactions on September 17 and September 20. Furthermore, a deposit of 500 ETH was made to Paxos on September 19.

Identification of Wallet Addresses

Spot On Chain notes that the source address for the recent 2,000 ETH transaction is a more well-known address (0xD04daa65144b97F147fbc9a9B45E741dF0A28fd7) associated with Buterin, compared to the intermediary address (0x5567A4bE2D5b77F5Fd870f99Ed9167Feab8831B1) that has been transferring funds to exchanges.

Cointelegraph previously reported on an ETH transaction of 600 ETH ($1 million) from the vitalik.eth address on August 21, which was also identified by on-chain monitoring platforms.

Hot Take: Vitalik Buterin’s Significant ETH Transactions Raise Questions

The recent series of significant ETH transactions from Vitalik Buterin’s wallet to centralized exchanges has drawn attention and raised questions about his intentions. The total value of these transactions amounts to over $3.9 million. While it is not uncommon for cryptocurrency founders and early adopters to sell or move their holdings, the frequency and scale of these deposits have sparked curiosity among blockchain enthusiasts. Some speculate that Buterin may be diversifying his crypto portfolio or funding new projects. However, without further information from Buterin himself, the true purpose behind these transactions remains uncertain.
