Iris-Scanning Project Worldcoin’s Mobile App Surpasses 4 Million Downloads
According to a blog post by the Worldcoin project team, their mobile World App has been downloaded over 4 million times, marking a significant milestone. If confirmed by Coingecko, this would place the World App as the sixth most downloaded software wallet on their list.
Increase in Monthly Users
The development team, known as “Tools for Humanity,” also reported that they now have over 1 million monthly users, double the number they had six months ago. The team shared this achievement on Twitter, stating that the World App has more than 1 million monthly active users, 4 million downloads, and 22 million transactions.
Worldcoin’s Unique Verification Process
Worldcoin offers a unique verification process where users can prove their humanness by scanning their irises. Once verified, users receive a “World ID” that can be used to confirm their authenticity to various applications. As a reward for verification, each user receives 25 Worldcoin (WLD) tokens valued at around $46.50.
Popular in Developing Markets
The project has gained popularity in developing markets like Argentina, where some participants have registered and sold the coins as a quick way to earn extra money.
Privacy Concerns and Centralization Criticism
Despite its success, Worldcoin has faced criticism for its alleged threat to privacy. Critics argue that the project is too centralized and can potentially expose users’ data publicly.
Downloading the World App
In order to cash out their WLD tokens, Worldcoin users need to download the World App to create an account. The team’s blog post revealed that the app has been downloaded over 4 million times, positioning it above the Solana Phantom wallet but below Bitcoin.com’s Bitcoin wallet in terms of popularity.
Continued App Usage
Many users who register for Worldcoin are continuing to use the app even after downloading it. The app has reached 1 million monthly active users, 500,000 weekly active users, and 100,000 daily active users. This represents a doubling of monthly active users compared to six months ago.
Privacy Concerns in Kenya
Despite its achievements, Worldcoin faced privacy concerns in Kenya. In response to an order from a parliamentary committee to cease operations in the country due to privacy issues, the project complied. However, they also issued a statement asserting their compliance with all privacy laws in Kenya.
Hot Take: Worldcoin’s World App Reaches Impressive Milestone
Worldcoin’s mobile World App has surpassed 4 million downloads, solidifying its position as a popular software wallet option. With over 1 million monthly users and double the number of monthly active users compared to six months ago, the project is experiencing notable growth. However, criticisms regarding privacy and centralization persist. Despite facing scrutiny, Worldcoin remains committed to adhering to privacy laws and regulations. As it continues to evolve and expand its user base, Worldcoin’s unique iris-scanning verification process sets it apart from other projects in the crypto space.
