Worldcoin Integrates with Minecraft for ID Verification

Worldcoin, a digital wallet and biometric ID project, has announced integration with Minecraft, the popular game owned by Microsoft. The aim is to address the issue of “griefing,” where bot users disrupt the gaming experience for others. The integration will be facilitated through a Worldcoin app called Luckperms, which allows server admins to establish permissions for verified users only. Unverified users will be unable to access certain features until they verify their identity using World ID. The process involves installing a plugin on the Minecraft server and following a command line prompt for identity verification.

Worldcoin Focuses on ID Verification, Not Blockchain or NFTs

While Minecraft’s developer, Mojang Studios, has previously banned blockchain and non-fungible token (NFT) technologies from the game, Worldcoin’s integration with Luckperms only focuses on identity verification. Although Worldcoin utilizes blockchain for its WLD rewards token, Minecraft’s stance remains unchanged. Worldcoin also plans to extend its ID verification services to other platforms such as Discord, Reddit, Shopify, Telegram, and soon Mercado Libre, a major e-commerce platform in Latam.

Hot Take: Worldcoin Improves Online Gaming Security

By integrating with Minecraft through its Luckperms app, Worldcoin enhances online gaming security by ensuring that only verified users can access certain features. This integration tackles the issue of bot users disrupting the gaming experience, creating a more enjoyable environment for players. Worldcoin’s focus on ID verification demonstrates a practical application of blockchain technology, while also respecting Minecraft’s restrictions on blockchain and NFT integration. With plans to extend its services to other platforms, Worldcoin aims to provide identity verification solutions across various online communities, promoting security and trust among users.
