Ghostface Killah to Release Exclusive Music on Bitcoin Ordinals

Former Wu-Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah has announced that he will be dropping exclusive music on Bitcoin Ordinals, a platform for inscribing digital files on the Bitcoin network. This news comes as Ordinals sales have been surging and the popularity of music inscriptions is increasing.

Killah, whose real name is Dennis David Coles, has collaborated with the Ordinals Bot and NFT artists Rare Scrilla and NakaPepes to create his collection. The unique aspect of these NFTs is that holders can freely build upon them without any copyright restrictions.

Why Wu-Tang Is Just the Start of Bitcoin Ordinals Music

Killah is not the only artist to venture into the world of Bitcoin Ordinals. Rare Scrilla and NakaPepes have also launched their own collections on the platform. Rare Scrilla’s SOUNDS V.1 audio inscription collection can be found on MagicEden and he is also involved with the Book of Meme project on Solana. On the other hand, NakaPepes has created the Ordistorians collection, which uses Memetic NFTs to communicate blockchain history.

Prior to Killah, African-born artist French Montana became the first mainstream artist to inscribe a song on Bitcoin Ordinals. His track took up 3.956 megabytes of Bitcoin transaction block space, making it the third-largest inscription on the platform.

The Unique Features of Bitcoin Ordinals

Bitcoin Ordinals differs from Ethereum-based NFTs in that it stores file data directly on the blockchain. In contrast, Ethereum NFTs provide holders with an ERC-721 token or certificate that represents ownership of a digitally or physically stored asset.

While music has been a popular use case for Ethereum NFTs, it has been relatively rare on Bitcoin Ordinals. This may be due to the limited storage space of 4 megabytes for each inscription. However, a recent community development has made Ordinals NFTs more versatile.

Recursive Inscriptions and Composability

Ordinals now allow recursive inscriptions to exchange data with each other, similar to the composability of Ethereum’s smart contracts. This means that content creators can go beyond the original 4 MB size limit by using a special syntax to request the content of other inscriptions.

LeonidasNFT, an influential figure in the Ordinals community, explained the implications of this feature. Instead of inscribing individual JPEG files for a collection, creators can inscribe traits and programmatically render images by making smaller inscriptions that request specific traits from the original collection.

“Inscriptions can now use a special “/-/content/:inscription_id” syntax to request the content of other inscriptions. This simple change unlocks many powerful use cases. For example, rather than inscribing 10,000 JPEG files for a PFP collection individually which would be quite expensive, you could inscribe the 200 traits from the collection and then make 10,000 more inscriptions that each use a small amount of code to request traits and programmatically render the image,” said LeonidasNFT.

A developer named Ratoshi has already demonstrated the potential of recursive inscriptions on Ordinals by deploying a music generation engine. Users can combine composable sound clips via artificial intelligence to create new tracks. The code for this engine was deployed on a single inscription and updates are added through smaller inscriptions.

Conclusion: Bitcoin Ordinals Expands the Possibilities of Music Inscriptions

The announcement by Ghostface Killah to release exclusive music on Bitcoin Ordinals is a testament to the growing popularity and potential of the platform. With the ability to freely build upon NFTs and the recent development of recursive inscriptions, Ordinals is expanding the possibilities for music inscriptions on the Bitcoin network.

As more artists and creators explore this unique use case, we can expect to see an increase in innovative and interactive music experiences within the crypto space.
