Matter Labs has released an open-source framework called the “ZK Stack” for building zk-rollups and layer-3s. This framework allows developers to create independent “hyperchains” powered by zero-knowledge proofs, enabling trustless connectivity with low latency and shared liquidity. The ZK Stack is built on the code of zkSync Era and offers full sovereignty and customization options. It is designed to address the challenges outlined in the ZK Credo and is free to use. Developers can tailor their hyperchains and define their tokenomics. The ZK Stack is battle-tested and offers flexibility and scalability.
In comparison, ZkSync and Optimism are both Layer 2 scaling solutions for Ethereum that use optimistic rollup technology. One of the main differences is their approach to fraud proofs, with Optimism using fraud proofs and ZkSync using zero-knowledge proofs. ZkSync’s use of zero-knowledge proofs enables faster transaction times, lower fees, and privacy-preserving transactions. ZkSync also allows for instant withdrawals, making it suitable for use cases that require near-instant liquidity. Both platforms are gaining traction and have been adopted by various projects and protocols in the Ethereum ecosystem.
