NEAR Foundation and D3 Collaborate to Secure .near TLD
The NEAR Protocol team has announced a strategic partnership between the NEAR Foundation and D3 Global to secure the .near top-level domain (TLD). The objective of this collaboration is to promote interoperability and drive mainstream adoption within the Web3 ecosystem.
NEAR’s Application for .near TLD with D3
NEAR Foundation and D3 Global are set to apply for the .near TLD in the upcoming ICANN application window. By integrating traditional web domains with the existing Domain Name System (DNS), the partners aim to facilitate the adoption of open web platforms, particularly in the domain of decentralization and interoperability.
The partnership is aimed at providing enhanced utility and a broader definition of identity for both users and developers, emphasizing the importance of interoperability for the open web.
Understanding Top-Level Domains (TLDs)
Top-level domains (TLDs) serve as the highest level in the root domain hierarchy. The acquisition of the .near TLD would potentially allow NEAR Foundation to utilize a single domain name for its website, email, and wallet addresses. TLDs also serve as verification credentials on various platforms, enabling the development of decentralized applications (dApps) that leverage existing internet infrastructure.
Enabling Interoperability on NEAR
The collaboration between NEAR Foundation and D3 will enable developers and projects on the NEAR ecosystem to leverage interoperable identities across both traditional Web2 internet and decentralized open web platforms. NEAR Foundation CEO Illia Polosukhin expresses excitement for the partnership and its potential for widespread adoption.
This integration, along with Chain Abstraction, expands the functionality of NEAR accounts, driving mainstream adoption by combining Web3 identity with existing internet infrastructure. Innovative use cases, such as NFTs and SocialFi, could arise from the collaboration with D3.
Driving Web3 Adoption
The collaboration with D3 and their patent-pending technologies and DNS solutions allows NEAR Foundation to establish Web3 digital identities that are interoperable with the internet. This integration enables users to utilize a single domain for websites, emails, or wallet addresses, with human-readable digital identities like Name.near.
By enhancing the functionality of NEAR accounts through Chain Abstraction, D3’s partnership sets the stage for mainstream adoption of Web3. D3 CEO Fred Hsu highlights the importance of interoperability in accelerating the growth of Web3.
