Nearly $10 Million in Ethereum Moved by FTX Exchange Hacker
Recent on-chain data reveals that the hacker responsible for the FTX exchange hack has moved $10 million worth of Ethereum from a wallet associated with the breach. This marks the first transaction from the wallet since the incident occurred almost a year ago.
The Transactions
According to Arkham Intelligence, a prominent blockchain analytical firm, the attacker attempted to conceal the transaction using privacy tools like RailGun and Thorchain.
The hacked wallet currently holds over $300 million in various cryptocurrencies, including 180,000 units of ETH and 3.9 million USDT, as per Arkham Intelligence’s dashboard.
Initially, the estimated losses from the hack ranged up to $400 million, but FTX claimed that the actual losses amounted to $323 million.
The identity of the hacker remains unknown, although there have been speculations within the crypto community suggesting the involvement of FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), which he vehemently denies.
SBF’s Criminal Trial Approaching
SBF is scheduled to face his criminal trial in October after being arrested in The Bahamas and extradited to the United States. The trial is expected to last for six weeks and will begin with jury selection on October 3.
Bankman-Fried is facing seven fraud-related charges, including two substantive charges and five conspiracy charges. He has pleaded not guilty to all of them.
