JPMorgan Chase Denies Reimbursement to Customer After Falling Victim to Imposter, Losing $14,000

JPMorgan Chase has declined to compensate a customer who had $14,000 stolen from her account by con artists posing as bank representatives. Shawna Green, a veterinarian from Florida, received a phone call that appeared to be from Chase customer support. Unbeknownst to her, the scammers had spoofed the bank’s phone number. Thinking it was a legitimate call, Green provided her PIN to the thief after being told that her business debit card was at risk and needed replacement. The scammers then redirected the new card to New York and proceeded to spend Green’s money. Despite Chase denying her claim and failing to notify her of the change of address or flag unusual purchases, current US banking laws do not protect victims of authorized transactions.
