Solana Saga Phones Sell Out as Bonk Token Price Skyrockets
On Dec. 5, Solana Labs co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko expressed disappointment in the lack of sales of the firm’s Saga phones. However, the situation has quickly changed, with the phones completely selling out in the US and only a few left in Europe. To manage demand, new orders are now limited to one per household.
The Bonk Token Craze
The surge in purchases of Solana phones is not primarily driven by a desire to own the device itself. The Block’s Director of Research, Steven Zheng, humorously pointed out that buyers are more interested in the bonk tokens that come with each phone. The price of bonk has experienced a significant increase, rising 135% over the past 24 hours and 600% since December.
Risk and Reward
Each Solana phone includes 30 million bonk tokens, which at their peak were worth $990 compared to the phone’s $599 price tag. However, recipients must physically receive their phones to access and sell the tokens. If the bonk token price drops further, buyers could face losses, excluding the value of the phone.
